Saxon’s, has a lot of local menu favorites from burgers & fries, Phillies, Clubs, Sliders, to Loaded Nachos and much more. But what first got my attention was their HUGE desserts that are sooo beautifully crafted, they are truly works of art! The young crew Saxon’s have some serious skills when it comes the WOW Factor. Because when you see the Edible works of art they create, you can’t help but go…WOW!

For a small appetizer before the table full of food arrives, we sampled some sweet potato waffle fries and jalapeño cheese bites. The sweet potato fries were tasty solo, but a little dip of ranch on the cheese bites really brought it home!

What we ate:

🔥LOADED NACHOS – Freshly cooked tortilla chips topped with grilled chicken, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, sautéed onions and peppers, jalapeños, and some of their homemade jalapeño ranch for good measure! This was a mountain of crunchy, savor, cheesy goodness! Eat it, share it, use your hands, or crunch it all up and eat it with a fork…enjoy!!!

🔥CAJUN FRIES – not on the menu yet so tell them you want what I had, Cajun Fries! It starts with Sidewinder Fries, then topped with cajun sausage, slap your momma seasoning, queso, bell peppers, onions, jalapeños, and plenty of Saxon’s homemade Rusty sauce! This has got a bit of a spicy kick to it and totally awesome!

🔥PHILLY CHEESESTEAK – Shredded steak, sautéed onion & bell peppers, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. This is a huge sandwich with a lotta tastiness going on, but don’t let it intimidate you, just start on one end, and dig in!

🔥THE CLUB – Cherry wood ham and oven roasted turkey, bacon, mayo, lettuce, and tomato on grilled Texas toast, and a pickle spear. This is a savory sandwich that you can pair with about any of their sides for satisfying meal anytime of day or night. No muss, no fuss!

🔥The STEAK N’ TATOR has been a local favorite for over a decade! The original that started all of the loaded fries in 2009! Crinkle cut fries topped with shredded steak, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, sautéed onions and your choice of homemade sauces. Regular ranch works great, or spice it up with their jalapeño ranch. Either way, it’s a winner!

🔥CHICKEN SLIDERS – Each order comes with 4 sliders and fries. Dressed with pepper jack cheese, bacon, honey mustard, and pickle on a sourdough bun. I love the taste and texture of sourdough anything! Sliders are built as smaller versions of Bigger sandwiches, but trust me, four of these are HUGE it the taste department! With a side of fries, you’ll probably have to take some home for later!

🔥BIG SAX burger – this is another long time local favorite. A 1/3 lb. burger on a sourdough bun dressed anyway you want it. This is a great place to start if burgers are what you desire. But if you want to do some exploring, they have at least ten other burger choices to choose from!

Last but definitely not least is Saxon’s desserts. Regardless what time it is, it’s always a good time for shakes, Sundaes, flats, frosties, and more!

The crew has got mad skillz when it comes to building beautiful desserts!

We started out with a Hot Fudge Sundae stuffed with vanilla ice cream, and surrounded by whip cream and cherries. I almost didn’t want to share, it was that good! But there was more to come, so we paced ourselves.

I chose the tried and true Banana split. It had three scoops of vanilla, topped with a whole sliced banana, strawberries, pineapple and chocolate toppings, walnuts, whip cream and cherries. Or if you want to build your own, add two bucks and go nuts!!

The girls had Saxon’s specialty Jar Shakes. They come in glass jars with their logo, which you get to keep. They chose the Cookies & Cream and JoJo’s Expresso. I’ll let your eyes do the work deconstructing the two ice cream marvels, but most all include a little something special.

The Cookies & Cream not only include an original Oreo, but also an ice cream sandwich that looks like a larger version of the legendary black and white cookie! The JoJo‘s Espresso in all its glory, was totally awesome on its own, but includes a huge ice cream bar for an extra shot over the top!

Saxon’s Drive In has been serving local families in Houston for generations. Good food, Friendly Service, and great people.
