1836 Restaurant in Ripley

1836 Restaurant @ 1514 City Ave North, Ripley, MS. Thursday- Saturday 11-9, Sunday 11-3.

👇 MENU at the bottom of photos 👇

Although this is a new restaurant, it’s not the owners first rodeo. They have many years of experience and take great pride in excellent customer service. They offer a good mix of delicious menu items ranging from Southern comfort foods to many eclectic items!

The building’s interior emanates a country lodge ambiance, with its log cabin exterior, hardwood ceilings, and a hint of Whimsy with a pop of purple seating. The atmosphere actually reminds me of the menu with its country flavors with some splash of New Orleans mixed in!

I was given a tour of the facilities and told about their plans to expand. In the process of getting ready before opening the doors, a deep cleaning, along with several new kitchen upgrades were installed. Also, a small banquet / party room is on their to-do list.

From the 1836 staff – “Why 1836, you might ask? Tippah County was founded in 1836, so we decided to give this great county the recognition it deserves. Tippah County is full of rich history, great people and of course, great places to eat. We at 1836 look forward to seeing our old friends, and making new ones.”

Menu showcase:
🔥 Hamburger Steak- This was a fresh house beef patty weighing a little over one pound. It’s served with optional sautéed onions and brown gravy. Of course I wanted both!

For sides, I went with garlic mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and some southern fried cornbread. This is an excellent pairing with the hamburger steak!

I also ordered some of their white beans on the side that are great with a main course or just with a piece of cornbread. You do you!

🔥 Pork Sammich- This was one big ole slice of pork loin served on a bun and served your way! The bun was 5” round and still had the golden fried piece of pork hanging out both ends! It was huge and delicious! They don’t skimp on the veggies either, with three slices of tomato along with a good handful of pickles!

🔥 Grilled Shrimp Po Boy- This is also available with fried shrimp if you prefer. The shrimp were fresh, huge, with a nice char, and seasoned well! It come with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and remoulade sauce served on Gambinos po boy bread.

I questioned them about their decision to leave the tails on. They decided to go this route for its presentation and to show the shrimp’s freshness. I have to agree. They did look beautiful and it took very little effort to pinch the tails off before eating.

🔥Jalapeno White Cheddar Cheese Curds – Be careful, or these little beauties might bite you back! I love fried cheese period, but throw in that little bit of kick from the pepper and you’ve got the makings of a party in yo mouth!! If you need to cool it down, just dunk it in some marinara and you’ll be back on track to party town!

🔥Fried Catfish Po Boy – A nice sized filet dressed the same as my Shrimp version. This went to someone else, but I couldn’t resist getting a quick pic to show y’all!

🔥Caramel Bread, Pudding – Definitely don’t forget to ask about their desserts! Even if you’re full, take some home for later. You won’t regret it!

The folks at 1836 have a lot to offer and are off to a great start! While on my visit, I noticed that the restaurant was bustling with activity. Many locals stopped by for a quick lunch break before returning to work, while others came to relax and savor their meal, basking in the excitement of the day and the new addition to Ripley’s culinary scene.
