For more than 50 years, the Pizza Bar has been a local favorite in Carbon Hill, AL. With a diverse menu, it’s the hot ham and cheese that has people coming from far and wide. Having tried it for myself, I can certainly taste why.

My 12-inch hogie was a masterpiece, packed with freshly shredded ham and Swiss cheese on a buttered and toasted bun. The shredded ham enabled the melted cheese to seep into every part of the sandwich, ensuring that each bite was as scrumptious as the last.

The Pizza Bar originated in 1972, when the Allison family started serving pizza, sandwiches, and more. They aimed to create a community where everyone was treated equally with the “come as you are” spirit. Jayson Merchant, the current owner, fell in love with the Pizza Bar when he first walked in and eventually became entrusted with carrying on the traditions and legacy.

From hosting community events to the countless signatures covering its brick walls, this local hangout boasts a rich history. During my first visit, I barely had a chance to scratch the surface of all they offer.

As many hometown favorites disappear, it’s heartening to see the Carbon Hill community rally around the Pizza Bar and ensure its preservation for generations to come. While there, savor the experience and tell the crew at the Pizza Bar I sent you! Happy trails!!
