The restaurant is located on the corner of a busy intersection in the heart of Belmont. They currently have drive through service, plus a cozy dining area. Formerly the Belmont Dixie Queen Cafe, it’s now home to Cole’s Smokehouse.

Cole’s has been serving Belmont and surrounding areas since 2018. They specialize in smoked meats, ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, sausage, turkey, brisket, and more! Their made in house Cardinal Sauce is a little sweet with a little kick of heat, a perfect complement for whatever you crave!

Each day their meat is smoked in smaller batches but more often so every customer is ensured the freshest meal possible. They use time-tested family recipes that result in each bite being infused with flavor that has been perfected over generations.

Whenever I see a sausage and cheese platter on any menu as an appetizer I gravitate towards it. There’s always enough to snack on while your main meal is being prepared, and enough leftover to enjoy later. With Cole’s platter you’ll find a generous serving of sliced smoked sausage, pepper jack, Colby, cheddar cheese, and bread n’ butter pickles.

The ribs were an add on to my smoked chicken plate. The ribs had a nice layer of seasoning and mostly fall off the bone tender. I could pick the meat off the bone with just a fork. My ribs as an add on included 4 bones.

The chicken plate comes with half a smoked chicken, Texas toast, and two sides. The half chicken was a beautiful golden color with its white meat retaining a hint of the smoky flavor.

The finely chopped slaw and baked beans were my first choice of sides. The baked beans are made from scratch using a Cole’s family recipe. Without giving away all its secret ingredients, it does include brown sugar, spices, and is left on the top rack of the smoker for approximately 6 hours to marinate. The end result is a slightly thick texture with a bold and rich flavor.

The 9 piece wings retained even more of the smoky flavors due to their size. They can be served wet or sauce on the side. I would definitely recommend your first experience them dry so to appreciate it’s natural flavors, afterwards to experiment, I’d suggest some white bbq sauce and Cardinal sauce for dipping. They have several sauces to choose from.

The jumbo bbq sandwich gives you a great view of the quantity and quality of pulled pork per sandwich. There was enough meat and slaw on that one sandwich to make 3 without having to spread it too thin.

In the Loaded section of the menu, you have several combinations to choose from, fries, tots, or nachos for the base, six different meats, two choices of cheese, and six different sauces. Plus you can also choose to add coleslaw and jalapeños.

I went with fries, pulled bbq, Queso cheese, and their homemade Cardinal sauce. This was a togo plate full of deliciousness! The fries were swimming in the sweet and spicy sauce and drenched in the creamy Queso cheese. If you carefully inspect the photo, you’ll see the quality of meat and quantity provided per order. The family and I made at least three small meals off of this and enjoyed every bite.

Cole’s has several signature sandwiches that include two different versions of Ruben’s available on the menu. One is the Redneck Ruben using brisket, slaw, BBQ sauce, and provolone on rye.

I chose the other, more traditional version, which is pastrami, house-made Russian dressing, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on rye bread. The most noticeable distinctions between Cole’s and other traditional Rubens is that their pastrami is smoked and sliced razed thin. This distinction gives it a noticeable flavor profile that separates it from all others. A true one of a kind savory sensation.

While visiting Cole’s Restaurant I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of longtime readers of Eating Out With Jeff Jones, Jimmy and Ann Goza. They live near the restaurant and gave me some added insight. They shared that Cole’s is not only a favorite of theirs, but the owner also works to provide meals through the church to local residents. Ann sent me a photo she took of her husband Jimmy and I that you can view below. If you know the couple be sure to click like and maybe say hi!

Everyone’s taste is different. My goal is to give you a glimpse of what I see and experience so you can judge for yourselves if the atmosphere and menu are right for you. So when you visit, be sure to tell the crew I recommended you. Happy Trails!!
