According to owner Sonya House, The Sizzler Steak House has been serving up mouth-watering steaks, catfish, scrumptious sides, and delectable desserts since 1972,

Take a short drive down Hwy 6, just east of Oxford, to find this iconic steakhouse nestled in the woods behind a sprawling gravel parking lot. The rustic building has undergone recent renovations, including a large screened-in dining area for additional seating.

During my initial visit to The Sizzler, I was eager to sample their most popular dishes. With over 50 years of menu development, I knew it would be a tall order. However, my server Lisa assisted me in selecting a delicious combination that truly showcases some of The Sizzler’s finest offerings.

Menu Showcase:
🔥Large Ribeye (16 once)
🔥 Fried Whole Catfish
🔥Fried Shrimp
🔥Homemade Hushpuppies
🔥Cheese and Sausage Plate
🥗Salad Bar with homemade dressing
🍰Red Velvet Cake

When entering the front room, you’ll first see a table displaying around seven different homemade cakes that you have to pass by before being seated. This was genius marketing in my opinion, because I already decided what dessert I wanted before even looking at a menu!

Their salad bar was about as well stocked as most folks garden! Many of my favorite toppings were there, from boiled eggs and tiny tomatoes, to several homemade salad dressings.

For an appetizer large enough to share, it was suggested I order the Cheese & Sausage Plate, plus a basket of fresh made hushpuppies to snack on. Both were a delicious treat while anticipating my upcoming entrées!

I ordered the Large Ribeye medium temperature. I was really excited to try my first steak from The Sizzler! As the photos show, it was cooked to perfection.

The steaks aren’t marinated, but rather aged for 45 days and dipped in a seasoning sauce before hitting the grill. The Ribeye was tender, juicy, with unique flavors of mild citrus and a hint of heat, possibly from a peppery ingredient. All I know for sure is that it was definitely delicious!

My fried whole catfish had a light crispy crust with beautiful white meat just beneath. Fillet and grilled catfish are also an option.

The hand breaded and fried butterfly shrimp were some of the prettiest I’ve seen. Prepared a golden brown, and very tasty. The perfectly plated shrimp resembled miniature lobster tails, and its appetizing appearance made it hard to resist. After all, we do eat with our eyes first!

Finally, it’s time for dessert! There’s nothing quite like a well-made Red Velvet Cake. A talented baker from Ecru makes all the cakes for The Sizzler from scratch. The red and white cake I had was out of this world! The texture and flavor of the true Red Velvet was perfectly captured, and the frosting was the proverbial icing on the cake.

The Sizzler Steak House of Oxford has stood the test of time for over half a century, and is a must visit dining destination. Visit soon and don’t forget to tell the crew I recommend them to you! Happy Trails!!

  1. We used to have one in New Orleans. That was the first place in my life I ever ate at a salad bar.
