Build it and they will come…I can’t help but always be reminded of the movie, Field Of Dreams, when I think of Agnew’s. Surround by corn fields, and country homes, folks start filling up the 160 + seats about as soon as the doors open.

The interior has a rustic charm, with many antiques, and slightly different themes in each of the several dining areas. Some of my favorite displays are the old newspaper ads that are encased in the table tops. One ad was for a new Buick for just a few thousand bucks. I didn’t read the date, but it was definitely before my time!
What we ate:
Beef Kabob – prepared medium
Shrimp Kabob – Cajun seasoning
Fried Whole Catfish
Sweet potato
Onion Rings
Salad
Slaw
Hushpuppies
Strawberry Cake
All great salads start with a well crafted salad bar. And Agnew’s salad bar was a work of art! Plenty of toppings, with many faves. Beautiful, fresh, and tasty! Oh! And their house made dressing…. AH…MAZING!!!! It was thick with mellow flavors. I was told that some even dunk their crackers in it like dip. I tried and I can definitely see the appeal!

The Beef Kabob is hand cut ribeye and sirloin steak on a stick, charbroiled to your specifications and lightly seasoned. Mine was prepared medium as I requested. The Kabobs have more surface area, so you get more of the smoky flavor, plus paired with the peppers and onion, makes a beautifully plated entrée that is firm with mild flavors. It’s like having several “petite” steaks in one!
Want something more surf than turf? Their fried catfish have just the right amount of crunch and beautiful white meat to satisfy most any craving. Add a splash of fresh lemon, tarter, or hot sauce and you’re good to go!
I always enjoy a skewer of grill shrimp with any steak! Agnew’s offer several seasonings to accommodate your personal preference! I was feeling a little spicy, so I went with the Cajun selection. If you’re just in a nibbling mood, then the shrimp and beef kabobs are a winning combination! Also, both are perfect for reheating leftovers in the air fryer later!!
As for the sides, a baked sweet potato is my favorite for steak and coleslaw for my fish. I really liked how Agnew’s coleslaw was finely chopped and had a good ratio of cabbage to sauce. You can definitely tell they have perfected the recipe over their many years in business!
I also decided on some onion rings as a side. Try dipping them or fries in a little of their delicious homemade dressing of the salad bar. They should bottle that stuff!!! 💯❤️
For the deserts, they had several to choose from, and after seeing someone else’s strawberry cake passing by. I decided that was what I wanted to try! Moist cake, a creamy layer, and topped with strawberries and filling was how it was constructed. My only regret was not asking for a cup of coffee so to savor every bite!
